The management of the Church of the Province of Uganda, North Mbale Diocese in Sironko district has threaten to sue one of Bugisu Region’s leading business tycoons and the Sironko District Chairperson of the ruling National Resistance Movement, Al-hajj Sulaiman Lumolo Mafabi over what they called deliberate refusal to pay back a Shs 30m debt which spans eleven years.

On August 29, 2009, President Museveni chaired a fundraising ceremony for the North Mbale Diocese in Musene village, Sironko District that was aimed at raising funds towards the construction of the Diocese Offices and the resource training Centre.

President Museveni donated Shs20m Cash towards this cause and a total of Shs115m was collected in contributions and pledges, which he (Museveni) handed over to Bishop Daniel Gimadu.

The Church says that it collected the rest of the pledges except Lumolo who bought a cow at Shs 30million.

The Church through its lawyers of N. Mugoda and Company advocates have now after 11 years, issued a Demand Notice asking Lumolo to pay the said amount within seven days or face legal actions.

In the Demand Notice that was seen by the ChimpReports, the Church alleges that Lomolo purchased a cow worth Shs30m, towards this cause but failed to pay it to date.

“Be notified that your conduct is not only unfortunate but is illegal and sanctionable by the Penal Laws of the Republic of Uganda,” reads part of the notice.

“Should you fail or neglect to heed, we shall on the expiry of seven days from the date of issuance hereof, be compelled to institute legal proceedings against you at your cost, peril embarrassment without further notice to you,” the notice adds,

The Church also produced a documental evidence of a letter dated January 26, 2014 which was addressed to Lumolo, reminding him to settle the debt before Museveni’s visit in the same district as he (Museveni) was preparing grounds for his 2016 polls.

“We remind you of the out-standing debt of Shs30m in view of the cow you bought during the fundraising H.E Y. K. Museveni carried out here at the Diocese 5 years ago!” the letter seen by Chimpreports reads part.

“Could you therefore please settle this before H.E comes on Tuesday. God Bless you as you host our beloved President Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” the letter adds

Efforts to get comments from Lumolo were futile as his known phone numbers were off by press time.
