Musician and songwriter Shena Skies has called out artists for low payments, particularly mentioning Rema Namakula and deejays Slick Stuart & Roja.
Shena Skies, real name Josephine Namagembe, made the shocking revelation during her recent interview, stating that she was the brains behind ‘More Of This’ by Rema, Slick Stuart & Roja. The song was a major hit, and while everyone expected the songwriter to have reaped big, Shena revealed that she only received 20K for fuel.
“They only paid me 20K for fuel. Things are not as simple as they look. Right now, I do not sell many songs. I have written many songs, but you might find that I sell one song a month or two; I cannot survive on that low pay,” she said.
Shena Skies has gained massive popularity, especially among artists, as one of the top songwriters over the years. She revealed that most of those who keep bragging about how expensive she is, in reality, do not pay her what she has worked for. She described them as unappreciative to the point that many have not even invited her to concerts where her songs headline.
“Artists come on TV saying they gave me 5 million, yet they didn’t give it to me in an actual sense. They paint an image in the media that I have a lot of money, yet they do not even pay me. They claim I’m expensive, yet they pay me little money. And keep promising to pay the balance.
“Even when you write a song, and it becomes a mega hit, no artist will come back to thank you. I have a lot of music, and if I didn’t have that talent, I would have quit the industry long ago. But God gave me this talent to share it with others; that is why I do this,” she said.
Shena Skies bragged about having a number of songs she has kept for years and feels would be good for certain artists, but because of their unappreciative nature, she chose to keep them to herself.
