Sheema: Minister Elioda Stands as Independent as Kateshumbwa Nominated

Technology Minister, Elioda Tumwesigye, who lost out in the NRM MP Primaries for Sheema Municipality, has this Thursday been nominated on the Independent ticket.

Elioda had earlier vowed not to give up after losing the party primaries to former URA top shot Dicksons Kateshumbwa, saying the primaries were neither free nor fair.

He further said a general election would give him a better opportunity to prove he was the favorite candidate for Sheema.

It remains unclear if other senior NRM officials who lost the primaries will seek re-election as Independents.

After being nominated today, Elioda vowed to serve the people with dedication and ensure vast extension of social services in the area.

The Minister is said to have supported thousands of Sheema people to receive drugs during the 1990s when HIV/AIDS was ravaging the country.

He also obtained thousands of bursaries for children in the area.

Kateshumbwa (L) was today nominated on NRM ticket

However, Kateshumbwa employed the door-do-door campaign strategy to challenge Elioda, a household name.

Meanwhile, Kateshumbwa was also nominated today to contest as Member of Parliament for Sheema.

Kateshumbwa maintains the people of Sheema Municipality were divided because of selfish and irresponsible leadership, undermining efforts to develop the area.

He urged the constituents to do away with divisions that have taken root with an aim of bringing development irrespective of tribal, political, racial or religious differences.
