A prominent businessman in Sheema District has been arrested for the murder of a child in suspected ritual sacrifice.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga says Joseph Kamugisha, a money lender and farmer was arrested in connection with the disappearance of  2 year old Kemigisha Christabel on July 18th 2022, from Mutanoga cell, Kigarama sub-county in Sheema district.

This later turned out to be a murder, after the victim’s body was recovered.

Enanga says the motivation of the disappearance and murder appears to be for ritualistic sacrifice, after the prime suspect admitted to kidnapping the victim from her grand father’s home.

Kamugisha, together with one Clinton Tumwesigye reportedly cut the victims throat and collected blood and thereafter dumped the body in front a neighbor’s home.

Enanga told reporters that Tumwesigye upon being arrested was the one who informed police that he was in touch with businessman Kamugisha , on the night that the victim was kidnapped and murdered.

Enanga says several exhibits including a hoe, blood-stained clothes, phone print-outs and the murder weapon were recovered.
