Comedian and politician Reign Omusoyisoyi, real name Obed Lubega, has opened up on one of the traumatizing moments of his life when he was almost beaten to death by an angry mob following false rape accusations.
Reign revealed that during his time as a teacher at Namirembe Hill, he had a cheerful colleague who often entertained students at his home. The house was located within the same compound where Reign also lived.
One day, a student who had a crush on the teacher went to his house. However, the teacher became afraid to send her away, worried that her siblings, who were outside, might attack him. Reign later believed the situation may have been a setup, as the matter quickly escalated into a false accusation against both teachers.
“They arrested me as I was coming back home, shouting that I had defiled a child. I didn’t even know what was going on. Because I was associated with Joab, they assumed I was involved. He had told me there was a girl at his place,” Reign said.

He further explained that he was forced into a taxi and taken to the police station. Due to the seriousness of the accusation, passengers began assaulting him along the way.
“I still didn’t understand why they were beating me. At some point, one person even suggested accusing me of theft so the mob could justify burning me alive. Luckily, they instead took me to Nateete Police Station, where an officer asked if the allegations were true. I told them I was being beaten for nothing,” he recounted.
Meanwhile, Joab was also attacked at home, beaten severely, and taken to the same police station. The two were placed in the same cell, where Reign finally learned what had happened, that the student had gone to Joab’s house on her own.

The following day, they were taken for medical examinations related to the case. During this time, Joab informed the authorities that Reign was not involved. Reign was later released on a cash bond of Ugx 200,000 Ugandan shillings.
“I only learned the truth after returning to school. The girl they claimed I had harmed came back the next day and told her friends that the teacher was innocent. I had no way to explain myself at the time because I was still traumatized by everything that had happened,” he said.
