Tooro’s Queen Mother Best Kemigisa has finally confirmed that her son, the fallen Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, indeed left a son behind.
King Oyo succumbed to cancer on 27th August at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Dallas, Texas. In a statement issued on her social media platforms, the grieving mother extended her gratitude to everyone who stood by her through the most trying time.
Amidst the trending debate surrounding his existence, Queen Mother confirmed that King Oyo left behind a son whom they hoped would return to Uganda on the same plane.
However, as the events unfolded in the kingdom surrounding the throne, concerns grew about bringing a child into a tense succession dispute.
“Untimely, the child did not return with us. This has left me deeply saddened. Whatever disagreement existed, no child should be placed in such circumstances where returning to his father’s homeland could mean being drawn into hostility and conflict,” she wrote in her statement.
King Oyo, at just three years old, took over as the Omukama of Tooro following the death of his father, Oatrick David Kaboyo Olime III.
Upon his death, Princess Komuntale and some of the senior royals announced that he left behind a will which also clearly stated the possible successor. Despite the tension, his cousin Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma was found suitable for the throne.

As the Tooro Kingdom embarks on a new chapter after King Oyo, the Queen Mother revealed that she intends to remain part of the journey as he preserves the memory of her son through different initiatives.
