As the countdown to the 2026 General Elections intensifies, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) USA Chapter is throwing its full weight behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Mr. Ronnie Kananura, the Chairman of the PLU USA Chapter, arrived at Entebbe International Airport on Sunday morning, marking a significant boost to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilization efforts. His arrival comes just weeks before Ugandans head to the polls on January 15, 2026, to elect their President and Members of Parliament.
Strengthening the Diaspora-Home Connection
Kananura was received by an enthusiastic team of PLU mobilizers led by Mr. Nkuusa Francis, the PLU USA Chief Mobilizer, who had arrived earlier on December 29, 2025.
The primary mission of the delegation is to consolidate support for President Museveni, the NRM’s presidential flagbearer. Speaking to the press at Entebbe, Kananura emphasized that their presence is a testament to the diaspora’s commitment to Uganda’s stability.
“We understand the NRM’s focus on preserving Uganda’s stability, economic progress, and socio-economic transformation,” Kananura stated. “Today, we protect the gains and build a prosperous Uganda together because the government has created an environment that enables citizens to prosper.”
The “Protecting the Gains” Theme
The PLU mobilization strategy is anchored on the theme “Protecting the Gains.” This slogan highlights the NRM’s commitment to:
-
Security and Stability: Maintaining the peace established over the last four decades.
-
Infrastructure Development: Continuing the expansion of roads, electricity, and ICT.
-
Social Services: Enhancing healthcare and education across the country.
-
Economic Growth: Steering Uganda toward high middle-income status.
Kananura praised President Museveni as a “symbol of stability” and a visionary leader whose policies on poverty reduction and regional security have benefited both Ugandans at home and those in the diaspora.
Strategic Mobilization for the 2026 Elections
The PLU USA team isn’t just visiting; they are hitting the ground running. Mr. Nkuusa Francis revealed that the team has already begun meeting with various stakeholders, including youth groups and local leaders.
Their itinerary includes:
-
Grassroots Mobilization: Engaging voters in rural and urban centers.
-
Media Campaigns: Leveraging digital and traditional media to promote the NRM manifesto.
-
Presidential Rallies: Attending and supporting the final campaign legs of President Museveni.
Nkuusa also extended gratitude to the PLU leadership, specifically mentioning General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Michael Nuwagira Kaguta (Chairman Toyota), for their roles in maintaining party discipline and grassroots cohesion.
A United Front for the NRM
The involvement of the USA Chapter signals a unified front between the NRM and the Patriotic League of Uganda. By engaging the diaspora, the PLU aims to promote national unity and patriotism, ensuring that the progress made under the current administration is safeguarded for future generations.
As the January 15 election date approaches, the arrival of influential diaspora leaders like Ronnie Kananura adds a layer of international legitimacy and financial/strategic momentum to Museveni’s quest for another term.
