President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Maama Janet Museveni have hosted renowned global evangelist Bishop Dr. LaDonna C. Osborn at State House Entebbe, reflecting on Uganda’s four-decade transformation, national leadership, and the enduring spiritual bond between the Osborn family and Uganda.
Dr. Osborn is in Uganda at the invitation of Pastor Patience Rwabwogo ahead of her consecration as an Episcopal Bishop on August 23, 2026—a milestone event that will coincide with the 20th anniversary celebrations of Covenant Nations Church in Luzira.
1. A 40-Year Reflection: From 1985 Turmoil to Modern Peace
Recalling her deep historical ties with the country, Dr. Osborn recounted her first missionary trip to Uganda in 1985, when she accompanied her late mother, Dr. Daisy Osborn, to prepare for a landmark nationwide evangelistic crusade at Lugogo.
Reflecting on the stark contrast between the two eras, Dr. Osborn praised Uganda’s post-1986 socio-economic and spiritual rebirth:
-
The Past (1985): A nation struggling with intense insecurity, ravaged infrastructure, civil conflict, and institutional breakdown.
-
The Present (2026): A stable, transformed country characterized by nationwide peace, expanding education and healthcare access, and guaranteed freedom of worship and expression.
2. Lessons on Leadership: Standing Firm on Nehemiah’s Wall
Addressing the inherent challenges of national and spiritual stewardship, Dr. Osborn drew profound parallels from the biblical account of Nehemiah rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem amidst intense opposition.
She used the scripture to encourage Pastor Patience Rwabwogo and public servants at large to stay resolute in their divine calling despite detractors:
“I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down.”
— Nehemiah 6:3
Dr. Osborn emphasized that anyone carrying out significant, transformative work will inevitably encounter resistance, making steadfast focus and resilience essential for impactful leadership.
3. Maama Janet Remembers Dr. Daisy Osborn’s Lasting Impact
The State House gathering also evoked cherished personal memories for the First Lady, who fondly recounted how Dr. Osborn’s late mother visited the First Family decades ago to pray with them and minister to their children.
“Your mother came to Uganda and came to pray with us. It was precious. She gave each of our children their first Bible and one of her books. At the back there was a message where she said, ‘If you want to meet God, repeat these words after me.’ I did, and it has never been the same since then. Your mother and yourself mean a lot to us.”
— Maama Janet Museveni, First Lady of Uganda
The First Lady also celebrated Pastor Patience’s spiritual milestone, describing her daughter as a dedicated servant of God whose elevation to the episcopate is a testament to divine grace.
4. Road to Consecration: Covenant Nations Church at 20
The meeting sets the stage for a series of high-level Christian conferences and ministry engagements across Kampala leading up to the main event:
