President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, accompanied by First Lady Maama Janet Museveni, has officially commissioned the newly constructed St. John’s Church building in Entebbe.
The state-of-the-art structure, which stands as a symbol of faith and community partnership, was unveiled on Monday ahead of the President’s campaign rally in Entebbe Municipality.
A Historic Return to St. John’s Church
Upon their arrival, the First Couple was received by the Vicar, Reverend Canon Rocky Sendegeya, who guided them on a tour of the impressive new facility. For President Museveni, the visit was a nostalgic return to a place of personal history.
“Maama Janet and I are very happy to be with you today. I congratulate you on building this new church,” the President told the congregation. He reminisced about the early years of the NRM government when they frequently prayed at the original, smaller church—a site that formerly served the colonial Governor.
The UGX 6 Billion Investment: A Partnership of Faith
The completion of the new St. John’s Church is a result of a massive Shs 6 billion investment, fueled by both local contributions and corporate social responsibility.
Dr. James Musinguzi, the Head of Laity, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the project:
-
Tororo Cement Contribution: Shs 2.4 Billion (coordinated through Manish Gaglani).
-
Christian Community Contribution: Shs 3.6 Billion.
The President commended the congregation for their sacrifice and specifically praised the church’s initiative to establish a SACCO, pledging further government support to complete remaining works.
Museveni’s Message: The Four Dimensions of the Gospel
During his address, President Museveni challenged religious leaders and Christians to adopt a “holistic” approach to faith, moving beyond the pulpit to address socio-economic challenges.
“The mission of Christ has four dimensions,” Museveni explained. “He preached the Gospel, healed the sick, fed the hungry, and worked with His hands as a carpenter. When people only preach and ignore the other dimensions, that approach is incomplete.”
He urged the Church to take a leading role in practical human needs, including food security, healthcare, and wealth creation.
Looking Ahead: Official Dedication in February 2026
The President confirmed his attendance for the grand official function scheduled for February 22, 2026.
Reverend Canon Rocky Sendegeya expressed his gratitude for the President’s leadership and the peace that has allowed such development projects to flourish. He also extended his well wishes to the President in the forthcoming national elections.
