A police detective in Buyende has been dismissed from the force with immediate effect for raping a woman victim who had gone to the police to report a case.
It is alleged that Detective Inspector of Police Balikoowa, the officer in charge of CID at Namusiita Police Post lured a woman who had gone to report a case of domestic violence by her husband by promising to give her a place to stay for the night until the next day.
“The victim had gone to report a case of domestic violence against her husband. When she reported the matter, police dispatched a team of three officers to look into the matter. They went to the home of the victim to arrest the suspect but didn’t find him.
The victim feared to return to her home until the husband is arrested and at around 6pm, our officer, Balikoowa asked the victim to go with him since he had found a place where she could sleep that night,” police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said.
He explained that instead, the police officer drove the victim to his home in Nakabira police barracks, bought food and drinks and afterwards raped her.
Enanga said in the morning, the police officer drove the victim and dropped her near Namusiita police post and promised to help her arrest the husband.
Meanwhile, on arrest, the husband reconciled with his wife after accepting to foot medical bills for the injuries inflicted on her.
“It is at this stage that the case of rape was reported against Detective Inspector of Police Balikoowa. He was consequently arraigned before the police disciplinary court for scandalous behaviour and was later dismissed from the force.”
Enanga said Balikoowa will later be arraigned in courts of law to face charges of rape.
