John Ssenfuma, a teacher at Hillside High School Mityana, has been taken into custody by the Kanyanya Territorial Police after allegedly attempting to defile a 15-year-old student.
The incident gained attention after a video clip showing John Ssenfuma being assaulted circulated on social media.
The police report issued by the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, confirms the detention of Mr. Ssenfuma, who resides in Mukono district.
This action was taken following a complaint lodged by Ms. Sheilah, a 26-year-old resident of Kyebando Erisa Zone in Kawempe Division, Kampala District. Ms. Sheilah, who is the guardian of the 15-year-old student, reported the incident to the authorities.
According to Ms. Sheilah, the family discovered Mr. Ssenfuma’s communication with the minor through WhatsApp, which led to his invitation to their premises.
On January 13, 2024, Mr. Ssenfuma travelled to the designated location and was apprehended upon arrival.
A medical examination conducted by a police surgeon confirmed that the victim was unharmed, as the intended act did not take place.
The case file has been submitted to the office of the Resident State Attorney, and the Kanyanya Police have received guidance on the next course of action.
The file is currently awaiting resubmission for sanctioning, and the suspect will face charges as determined by the Prosecution.
