Patrick Agaba  alias Patrick Kasaija has appeared in the High Court and charged with kidnap.

The 36-year-old self-employed resident of Kamuli Zone Kireka, Kira Division in Wakiso District is accused of kidnapping with intent to procure a ransom contrary to section 243 (I) of the Penal Code Act.

On Tuesday he appeared before High Court judge Yasin Nyanzi for bail application.

Prosecution alleges that Agaba and others still at large, on May 1, 2013 at Muyenga A, Kironde Road in Kampala District kidnapped a one Joan Cora Alupo with intent to procure a ransom or benefit for her liberation from being killed.

Agaba was on May 15 extradited from South Africa where he had reportedly been hiding.

Police accused him of being behind the kidnap and murder of Suzan Magara.

Magara, then 28, was kidnapped on February 7, 2018, as she drove to her home in Lungujja, Kampala.

Her kidnappers detained her for weeks, using her phone to call her family, in the end extracting a ransom of Shs700 million, her family said at her funeral.

Her body was discovered on the Entebbe Expressway near Kampala on February 27, 2018.

Pato, who is said to have been known to the deceased, was accused of being the mastermind of the crime and collecting and leaving with the ransom money.

A manhunt for him was mounted shortly after the killing.

Pato was arrested in South Africa, but his extradition took months until he was brought to Uganda in mid-May.

In his absence, Pato and eight suspects had been charged with the kidnap and murder of Magara.
