The National Unity Platform (NUP), Lubaga South chapter, has launched a Presidential Medical Brigade to offer swift medical support to campaign supporters during gatherings.

The initiative is seen as timely as Robert “Bobi Wine” Kyagulanyi prepares for his formal nomination.

    Why the Medical Brigade?
Over recent political rallies, NUP supporters have reportedly sustained injuries and faced delays in receiving medical attention. In some cases, delays allegedly cost lives. Lubaga South’s NUP aspirant, Mugga Adam Swift, emphasized these incidents during the launch.

    What the Brigade Will Do
Trained medical personnel and a fleet of ambulances will be deployed across the country during campaign events to ensure immediate care.
Medical supplies and logistical support will be coordinated by volunteer medical teams.
Swift has pledged UGX 10 million to kick off operations. More funding and resources are expected as the initiative expands.

    Political Context & Timing
The brigade was formally launched at NUP headquarters in Makerere Kavule. Habib Buwembo, the party’s chief mobilizer, praised the move as evidence of NUP’s people-centered approach to campaigning.

Swift urged supporters to conduct themselves peacefully, respecting laws and security forces during campaign activities. This is part of the party’s wider effort to maintain credibility and public order ahead of Kyagulanyi’s nomination.

    Significance & Implications
Public safety: The medical brigade sets a precedent for how political parties might integrate welfare mechanisms into campaign logistics.
Supporter morale: Knowing medical support is in place may reassure and encourage participation.
Campaign strategy: This move can be seen as both humanitarian and strategic, enhancing NUP’s image.

    Conclusion
As Bobi Wine’s nomination draws near, the launch of the Presidential Medical Brigade signals NUP’s commitment to protecting its supporters and ensuring safer campaign events. It reflects a growing trend in Ugandan politics toward addressing not just political goals, but also the welfare of the citizenry.
