The State Minister for Higher Education, Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, has issued a warning to schools against commencing the school term prematurely, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the official start date of 5th February, as outlined in the Ministry of Education and Sports’ calendar.
Expressing concern, Muyingo revealed receiving reports indicating that numerous schools are gearing up to begin teaching ahead of the specified date, deeming such actions as illegal.
He urged District Education Officers to take strict measures against schools that defy the official directive.
Addressing attendees at a Thanksgiving ceremony in Busiika, Ziroobwe Town Council, hosted by Varelia Nakiwala, Muyingo highlighted the misuse of early term starts by some schools, emphasizing that some are motivated by financial gains rather than a genuine commitment to education.
He argued that holidays should be a period for children to be nurtured by their parents without the added pressure of studies.
Muyingo stressed the significance of the home environment in shaping a child’s education, asserting that successful individuals, including himself, attribute their leadership positions to the quality time spent with parents during holidays.
