National Medical Stores (NMS) has taken part in efforts to improve cleanliness in Entebbe Town.
This came after an NMS truck driver was spotted dumping garbage in an ungazatted area in Lunyo, Entebbe.
Robert Bavakure, a resident of Lunyo blew the whistle on Twitter, saying NMS needed to take action about the matter.
In response, NMS publicist, Sheila Nduhukire, condemned the driver’s actions and pledged to ensure the place is cleaned up.
“Hello Robert, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our garbage handling and disposal, sadly, did not meet the required standards as evidenced in these pictures,” said Nduhukire.
Land, water, soil and air pollution in the neighborhood are primarily caused by illegal dumping.

The chemicals and non-biodegradable materials in the waste affect the physical environment and the waterways by contaminating groundwater and soil.
Two days after the matter was reported on Twitter, according to Nduhukire, NMS “partnered with Entebbe Mayor Fabrice Rulinda to clean up the area as a gesture of our commitment to proper waste management.”
Rulinda expressed commitment to work with NMS and other government agencies to improve sanitation in Entebbe.
NMS, whose headquarters are based in Entebbe, is mandated to procure, store and deliver essential health supplies mainly to public health facilities.
