President Yoweri has praised Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as a “good military officer,” serving in an army that is riddled with corruption and other challenges.
In an interview with Kenya’s KTN News which aired last evening, Museveni said this was the reason he recently elevated Muhoozi to the highest UPDF rank, despite his “mistakes” on Social Media.
“That General you are talking about Muhoozi, is a very good officer in army things,” Museveni said.
“The army has got all sorts of problems like corruption; many of the armies are killed by corruption, stealing resources of the army, poor training and so on.”
Responding to a question on whether Gen Muhoozi who is also his eldest son, only received a slap on the wrist after he threatened to invade the Kenyan capital Nairobi on Twitter, Museveni said the UPDF has always used the same method of rewarding a soldier for their good deeds and reprimanding them for their bad.
“If somebody is good in something but makes a mistake in something else how do you handle it?” he said.
“Our experience, not only for Muhoozi but for many of them, is that you may not get people 100 percent correct, but if you get 10 percent mistake or 20 percent mistake but you have got 80 contribution, this is how you manage it.”
President Museveni also reassured that General Muhoozi would never again engage in such controversial topics on social media, saying “he should not do and he will not do it”
Museveni, a fortnight ago issued an apology to the people of Kenya over Muhoozi’s tweets.
“I ask our Kenyan brothers and sisters to forgive us for tweets sent by General Muhoozi, former commander of land forces here, regarding the election matters in that great country.” the President wrote in a statement.
Gen Muhoozi himself last week sought forgiveness from the President of Kenya William Ruto.
