In a significant milestone for Ugandan sports heritage, MTN Uganda and the Entebbe Club officially opened the newly refurbished Entebbe Clubhouse, fulfilling a key commitment from their three-year partnership signed in April 2023.
The momentous event, held at the historic club grounds, was graced by the Attorney General of Uganda as the Guest of Honour.

The comprehensive restoration project revitalizes a national treasure, ensuring that East Africa’s oldest golf club, founded in 1901, retains its historical integrity while offering modern amenities. This initiative reaffirms MTN Uganda’s commitment to investing in institutions of national and cultural significance.
A Partnership Rooted in Heritage and Progress
The official opening ceremony signifies a major deliverable in the strategic alliance between MTN Uganda and the Entebbe Club. This collaboration is anchored in shared values of trust, legacy, and creating long-term value for the community. The clubhouse opening follows the earlier completion of the MTN Halfway House, also known as the MTN Pod, which was unveiled in December 2024.

Speaking at the ceremony, MTN Uganda CEO, Sylvia Mulinge, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to community upliftment.
“MTN Uganda is honoured to play a part in safeguarding and elevating a place that holds such a special position in Uganda’s sporting story,” said Ms. Mulinge. “The refurbishment of this clubhouse represents a promise delivered and a demonstration of our belief in partnerships that uplift communities. Together, our drive is unstoppable.”
Preserving a 120-Year Legacy: The New Clubhouse Experience
The refurbished Entebbe Clubhouse was restored with careful attention to the heritage and history that define the institution. The blend of restored architecture and interior design respectfully preserves the club’s origins while introducing modern comfort, creating a warm and dignified home for its members and visitors.

Visitors to the renewed facility are now offered an immersive walk through history. The clubhouse features a display of original documents dating back to the club’s founding, vintage golf clubs, photographs, golf balls, and various artifacts that reflect the traditions that shaped the sport in the region.
Entebbe Club Chairman, Jacob Byamukama, expressed the membership’s deep appreciation for the partnership.
“MTN has given us a home that reflects who we are and where we have come from,” stated Mr. Byamukama. “Our members finally have a place they can be proud of, and future generations will walk through these rooms and understand the legacy they inherit. We are deeply grateful for this commitment.”
Leadership Praise: MTN’s Commitment to Ugandan Sports
As Guest of Honour, the Attorney General of Uganda commended MTN Uganda and its partners for their continued and significant investment in the club and the wider sporting community.
“I applaud MTN Uganda for this meaningful upgrade of the Entebbe Clubhouse,” he said. “I also encourage members of the club to support the sponsors who invest in this institution, because when partners are supported, such progress can be sustained.”
MTN’s investment extends beyond the Clubhouse and the MTN Pod; it also includes the long-running sponsorship of the highly popular MTN Monthly Tee tournaments, contributing significantly to the continuity and growth of golf in Uganda.
Driving Future Excellence: The MTN Grand Tee of Tees
The official opening ceremony also served as a prelude to the upcoming MTN Grand Tee of Tees, scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 13th. The event promises to be a celebration of the progress achieved through effective collaboration and a further testament to MTN Uganda’s long-term commitment to a sport that inspires fellowship, excellence, and shared national progress.
The revitalized Entebbe Clubhouse stands as a symbol of shared vision, a fulfilled promise, and a strong demonstration of what can be achieved when leading corporate entities invest in the preservation and promotion of national heritage and sports infrastructure in Uganda.
