A Texel lamb has broken the record to become the world’s most expensive sheep. It was sold for nearly £368,000 or 1,815,484,933.33 Ugandan Shilling in Scotland, according to a News18 report.
Its name is Double Diamond, and on August 27 it was sold for 350,000 guineas at the Scottish National Texel Sale.
The first bid was at 10,500 pounds and then as it got more intense, the numbers started going up. The final bid was made by 3 buyers in partnership, and that made it a world record.
It was sold by Charlie Boden from Cheshire and is embryo-bred.
Jeff Aiken, who is one of the buyers and flock manager at Procters Farm said many breeders were interested in Double Diamond.
“I knew he was going to be a lot of money but I wasn’t expecting him to make that much. He’s just an outstanding animal. He’s a massive lamb with great confirmation and character, some of which is what breeding is all about,” he told Sky News.
“But with the pedigree, you start looking at the smaller details of the lamb – you look at his head, the hair color, the color around his eyes, legs, he was just perfect in every way,” he added.
This sheep originates from the island of Texel in the Netherlands and British farmers prefer this breed due to the good quality of the meat.
