Uganda police in Entebbe is investigating circumstances under which one of the revelers at a beach in Kitubulu, drowned and died on Boxing Day.
The deceased has been as Douglas Kaweesi, a 28-year-old, resident of Kazinga Abaita ababiri.
It is said that on Sunday, Kaweesi asked his 10 year-old nephew, to escort him to the lake shores for swimming.
Unfortunately, Kaweesi was overpowered by the strong waves and drowned.
In a statement issued by Kampala Metropolitan police, Kaweesi’s nephew returned home after a long wait and informed his father, identified as Martin.

“A serious search was conducted on Monday at Kitubulu, with the help of the local fishermen and the body of the victim retrieved,” said Kampala Metropolitan deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigire.
“The matter is now being investigated to establish the culprits behind the opening of the beach, since it is a restricted area under the Ministry of Health guidelines on COVID-19. This includes the area territorial commanders who happen to have exhibited unprofessional behavior,” he added.
Police say access to beaches remains restricted.
Meanwhile, it has been established that police on Sunday was involved in running battles with revellers at several bars and beaches in Entebbe and other parts of the country when holiday makers went out to party despite the restrictions.
Many were arrested and detained at different police stations awaiting to be arraigned in courts of law.
