The territorial police in Kajjansi are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed one person around 2:00 a.m. on May 29, 2024, at the Total Petrol Station in Kitende on the Kampala-Entebbe Road.

This development was confirmed in a May 30, 2024 statement by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan.

Owoyesigyire said the events leading to the incident are still unclear because eyewitnesses are giving conflicting accounts of the incident.

“It is alleged by some witnesses that the driver of a white Fuso truck, registration number UBB 891J, which was carrying matooke, struck an unidentified person and fled the scene. Another account suggests that the deceased was pushed off the said vehicle, which then continued on its way,” he stated.

Owoyesigyire added that the vehicle was intercepted at Kasubi after concerned citizens pursued it. He added that the driver was later arrested, and the deceased’s body was transported to Mulago’s City Mortuary for postmortem examination.

He also stated that because of the conflicting statements from eyewitnesses, the matter has been referred to the Criminal Investigations Directorate.

Owoyesigyire said the police will provide further details as the investigation progresses.
