Position: Health Coordinator/ WASH Educator
Location: Kyenjojo, Uganda
Reports to: Operations Manager
Organisation Overview:
‘663toZERO’ has a goal of reducing the amount of people in rural
Ugandan communities that do not have access to clean drinking water. We do
this by providing rural Ugandan communities with the ‘OKU-Zi’ product
designed by Founder Mitch Horrocks. ‘OKU-Zi’ is a simple sheet metal product
that allows mothers in rural communities to boil water using the same time and
energy as it takes to cook a pot of food for her family. ‘
Position Summary:
This position is for the Senior Health Coordinator for the villages that we operate in as an organisation.
They will be living in the village near Butiti, Kyenjojo in our cottage that we own. The Health Coordinator
is responsible for carrying out weekly education programs with the mothers in the village about the
importance of clean water and sanitational health. The Health Coordinator will also help the mothers
put the finishing touches on the product ‘OKU-Zi’ with the help of our village facilitators. The Health
Coordinator will also be spending the days of the week visiting each household in the village and
following up with more one-on-one education from the group the previous Saturday. They will assist in
creating health programs that suit these people including assessment; capacity building and training,
enhancing quality of health/hygiene and sanitation programming through collaborative approach with
the community.
The role consists of THREE WEEKS ON and then ONE WEEK OFF as a monthly cycle with
accomodation provided, living expenses and travel expenses fully paid for as well as a food/living allowance.
The ‘663toZERO’ Health Coordinator will be expected to:
Organizational Leadership
● Conduct Behavioral Barrier Analysis (BBA) and community assessments to identify critical
requirement for program intervention
● Work closely with the Senior and Junior Operations Managers to achieve program objectives
and targets effectively and efficiently
● Develop and establish a work plan for carrying out program deliverables and required activities
● Monitor program expenditures and regularly liaise with Finance Manager
● Actively participate in program design, implementation and evaluation
● Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and annual reports to Operations manager, and other
relevant program staff
● Enhance the technical and planning capacity of Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) as well
as up-date new approaches in line with 663toZERO’s strategies
● Communicate with village facilitators about days they will be required to help carry out group
education classes and creation of the product for every single household in each village
Networking/Outreach
● Network with other actors and like-minded NGOs in Kyenjojo District
Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate will be a details-oriented individual with great management experience and
knowledgeable about Kyenjojo District and Fort portal. Specifically they will have:
● Fluent Rutooro language skills
● Commitment to 663toZERO’s vision, mission and values.
● A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Public health, social sciences development related courses or
equivalent experience is preferred.
● At least 2years’ experience in similar tasks that requires attention to details.
● Experience working in Uganda or similar developing country.
● Exceptional problem solving and solution-based skills.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to lead and encourage a
team, communicate a vision, make timely and transparent decisions, solve problems, and
manage conflict.
● Strong record of planning and evaluation of programs.
● The ability to work well under pressure, especially when faced with delays or stressful situations.
● An understanding of program management.
● A willingness and ability to live in rural communities
● Experience working in the water, sanitation, hygiene, or public health sector is required
The negotiable salary is between 700,000-1,000,000 UGX per month with living expenses and
transport fully paid for.
