The Inspector of General of Police, Abas Byakagabahas instituted a commission of inquiry against one of their own, a one, police constable, Alex Katungi in Kajjansi Town whom residents of Kajjansi Town Council claim to be behind numerous cases of torture, extortion and corruption against those believed to degrading the crucial ecosystems with in Kajjansi wetlands and areas surrounding Entebbe municipality.
This investigation is jointly being conducted with the Office of the Inspectorate of Government since residents of Kajjansi equally sought the intervention of the Deputy Inspector General of Government Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe following corruption allegations against Alex Katungi.
According to Gibert Napoko, a resident of KajjansiTown Council narrates his worst experience last year after having being arrested and detained at KajjansiPolice Station under the command of Alex Katungi claiming that his pork joint was suited in a wetland, Napoko adds, “I only regained my freedom after paying Shs 500,000 to Alex Katungi”
In an exclusive interview, the commandant of the Environmental Police, Enock Abaine, confirmed to Nile Post, that Alex Katungi is a police constable who was re-called from Kajjansi Police station back to Police Headquarters, last year in February following numerous complaints from residents over torture and extortion.
“His recall from Kajjansi police station stems from complaints among residents, therefore the Inspector General of Police has instituted a commission of inquiry to investigate him and take appropriate action against him” Abaine told Nile Post.
“I was arrested the first time and paid Shs 500,000 for my release, though a month later, I was arrested again over degrading the wetland, but I was forced to pay Shs 1,600,000 for a police bond at Kajjansi under the watchful eye, of police constable Alex Katungi” Peter Sinabulya, a truck driver narrates a tearful ordeal of his arrest and extortion.
Enock Abaine assured residents of Kajjansi to feel free by providing evidence of torture, extortion and corruption against Alex Katungi for the commission of inquiry to leave no stone turned and bring to book the alleged errant police constable Katungi.
