Government has indefinitely suspended the operation of Nicholas Opiyo’s Chapter Four and Mira Matembe’s CCEDU NGOs.

The Ministry of Internal affairs claims the Human rights and Election monitoring NGOs did not file annual returns and audited books of accounts.

The ministry explains that the NGO board noted with great concern the increasing fraudulent practices involving some NGOs and members of the general public.

It says some unscrupulous individuals are taking the advantage of the NGO sector to defraud their stakeholders.

Through his Twitter account, Laywer Opiyo reacted to the development saying; “The National Bureau for NGOs has notified us of the indefinite suspension of the permit of Chapter Four for what they term failure to file returns and disclosing our sources of funding.

We are working with the authorities to clarify what we believe is a misunderstanding.”

In June this year, government suspended the operations of six Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) over alleged fraud.

The NGO bureau revoked the permit and certificate of Comforter of the Afflicted Formation Home, Agape Sanctuary Ministries International and Christ Alive Glorious Ministries International over defrauding, extorting money and diversion of funds.

While Equal Opportunities for Women and Children in Uganda, Dankind Academy and Global Health Community Empowerment were suspended over alleged forgery of documents, defrauding their stakeholders and electronic fraud.
