Beach owners in Entebbe Municipality are smiling from the bottom of their hearts and walking with their heads high after government through the ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development officially lifted the ban it had imposed following the drowning of over 13 people during the festive season between Dec.25-16, 2015. The beach owners have been burning on Katebe like hell ever since their facilities were shut down to investigate why the 13 people drowned under unclear circumstances. The ban was finally lifted last week after the beach owners agreed to put into place measures to avoid such incidents from happening again. The beach owners put in place visible marks in the lake to avoid swimmers from exceeding the 20m point in addition to having life savers and jackets always on standby and a marine police boat to monitor the lake 24/7. The beach owners have been on their knees and negotiating with Pius Bigirimana the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Gender, Labor and social Development to open their facilities. The beaches that were closed include Sports Beach, Aero beach, spennah beach and Lido Beach.
