Renowned songwriter and musician Fyno, real name Joseph Ssuuna, has opened up about his songwriting, putting a timeframe on releasing a hit song.
Fyno is one of the young, celebrated songwriters in the Ugandan music industry and has worked with some of the top names. Speaking about his musical prowess, Fyno noted that all he needs is just 30 minutes to pen down a song that would most likely be a hit song.
Listing songs like B2C’s Tokigezza, Nina Roz‘s Olumya Banno, and Munda Ddala, among others, he spent just 30 minutes coming up with the lines. He affirmed that the only time he stretches to an hour is when he is producing the song to bring it out just the way he wants.
“It took me just 30 minutes to write all those things. What usually takes up my time is the fact that I do some production there. Some producers do not bring out exactly what you want in a song, and you have to be involved. That is what stretches to an hour on one song,” Fyno said.
Fyno revealed that he is one of the songwriters who do not want their work to be misrepresented. After he writes a song for an artist, he is available for studio sessions to provide direction and bring out the song’s beauty.

“I do that because many songs get stale at that stage, and they usually blame the songwriter. It hurts when they do not pay us what we deserve, because it takes a lot. You give someone a song, and they like it; you give them time to practice and own it, and when they come back, you have to be around for them to execute it the way you want. You take all that time, and then in the end someone doesn’t pay you your dues after working that hard,” Fyno said.
