Uganda Police have placed in its custody a Special Forces Command (SFC) deserter, Samuel Mulondo.

The suspect is being held on allegations that he hatched a plan to attack the Luuka central police station.

His arrest happened on Wednesday when police picked him up from outside Luuka central police station. He appeared to be wearing Islamic clerical attire at the time of his arrest.

Police leadership in the area had previously commonly known Mulondo Abdul after carrying out discreet inquiries. The police then found out how the suspect had been frequenting the police station for about a week with no strong reason.

It should be noted that for the past three days, Mulondo has been under police surveillance. They found out that he wore casual clothes at night and slept in bars. While during the day, police found that Mulondo would camouflage himself as a Muslim cleric.

One police officer said on the dates of 19th and 20th, December, a witness saw Mulondo inspecting Luuka police station. After his arrest, police found out that Mulondo wore three trousers, two vests, one shirt, a kanzu and a cap. He also apparently had some documents that linked him to the SFC. Currently, Mulondo has been taken to Magamaga military barracks for further interrogation.

In recent times, police stations have been major targets of attacks leaving officers dead and guns stolen. Government agencies have contradicted each other on who and the purpose of the attacks on police stations.
