The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party Spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has passed a warning to party members who might think of backing a candidate who does not belong to the Najjanakumbi-based party.
The FDC officially recognized Kira Municipality legislator who doubles as the blue-themed party’s spokesperson Semujju.
Speaking to NBS TV in an interview, Semujju said:
“In the last Parliament, we had MPs who would not even allow participating in our party primaries because they had gone against the party, and this, I would like to communicate as the FDC spokesperson, you disobey the party at your own risk, time will come when you need FDC and FDC will not be there for you.”
The Speakership of the 11th Parliament race continues to attract attention and shape National discussions with FDC being the only party to have announced a candidate so far.
The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) is yet to recognize any member for this race although it’s members Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, her deputy Jacob Oulanyah and MP Juliet Kinyamatama have already shown interest.
On rebuilding FDC
Semujju said that having lost some of its members in the recent 2021 general elections, the party is now keen to mend relationships with some of its former members.
“We intend to have delegations going to different subregions to rebuild the FDC infrastructure there because each election is going to affect you differently,” Semujju said.
Last week, the National Unity Platform (NUP), which is now the new biggest opposition party in the country wrote to FDC, requesting a meeting and Semujju said that FDC is willing to work with them.
“The FDC president said that he received a letter from NUP requesting for a meeting, he briefed the MPs and he said that we will discuss with them, where we have agreed, we will come back and brief you,” Semujju said.
Semujju however noted that as FDC, they would prefer working at an institutional level and not individuals. He said that they will only collaborate with NUP as an institution.
