After attracting public attention through the flyover incident on 10th January 2024, Jamila reached out to a reporter for New Vision Newspaper, seeking an opportunity to tell her story and call for support since her efforts through the Police appeared futile.
On 14th January, together with a sister, they met Iga Stuart at the New Vision Offices in the Industrial Area. Almost 2weeks later, they were shocked to see the details that were published in the Newspaper on January 27th – 28th 2024 under the headline “Why I tried to kill my Children” on pages 54 – 55.
They read the news with frustration this morning, seeing falsified information and details that they never told the reporter included in the article.
The reporter not only twisted some of her words but also included details that did not occur, as noted below.
- He wrote that the doctor`s report from Paragon Hospital indicated that her son`s anal sphincter was rapture which is not true. The doctor had reported that it was the first time he was seeing a child with such a loose anal sphincter.
- He used the psychologist`s diagnosis of PTSD in the newspaper, which he wasn`t supposed to include. The diagnosis from the psychologist showed that the children had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and they had started therapy with her. Jamila had advised the reporter to wait on the reports from an examination by specialists at Mengo Hospital.
A visit to Mengo Hospital was made on 15th January 2024, and on 19th January 2024, medical examinations were carried out on the 2 children by a pediatrician, psychiatrist, psychologist and then a surgeon. The results from this examination done under anesthesia showed that the anal sphincters of the two boys were wider by 3cm (for the 4-year-old) and 2cm (for the 2-year-old) and that sexual assault had occurred. - He reported that Jamila`s sons were put in a basin to cool down which she did not mention in her report, and none of her children had said anything of that sort.
- He reported that the Police were helping Jamila to take her children to a bigger hospital for examination, which is a lie. On different occasions, she reported to the Police, that her sons were examined at a clinic and not by a surgeon. She decided to get the money to have an examination from Mengo Hospital.
- He also reports that the children were lured into a room and forced to sniff a substance which is not true. The incident that Jamila told him of was from the time when it was only her first son who was being abused, and he (the boy) had reported that a substance was sprayed on his nose which made him sneeze (this he explained by making the sound made by people when they sneeze.)
- He also reported that Jamila had lived in Namugongo Mbalwa which is not true
– We made a call to New Vision today on the number +256 312337000 to complain about the false information that had been reported. The gentleman who picked up the call advised us to call back on Monday 30th January, when the Editor in charge of the article is in office and he will forward our call to him. – We tried to contact Iga Stuart by phone to get clarity on the article he wrote, but he was not picking up our call. When we messaged him on WhatsApp, his response was “You should appreciate instead. I gave you space to tell your story.”
This update comes to notify you, that the information circulating in the New Vision about this issue is not entirely true and we are working toward having the truth come to light.
It is sad, that there are people who exploit the pain that Jamila and her sons are going through just to get a “juicy story” or a pat on the back from their bosses. This is not just a story. These are lives and a generation that we must stand to protect.
