Beach owners and operators in Entebbe Municipality are cursing like hell and crying crocodile tears after revelers shunning their beaches on New Year’s Day. Proprietors of Aero, Lido, sports and spennah beach are pissed off after suffering heavy losses on New Year’s Day. The poor fellas pocketed little dime on New Year’s Day from a handful of revelers who turned up and feasted on the fried fish and drinks minus swimming in the waters. This comes after the public was warned to avoid visiting beaches after a terrible incident that claimed over 16 young men during the festive season. The poor young men lost their lives after they drowned under unclear circumstances. Our news team visited Lido, Aero and sports Beach on New year’s day and the beach owners have taken a couple of measures to prevent such an incident from happening again. Swimming has been banned till further notice with barriers being erected on the beach shores to deter people from accessing the waters. A police marine’s boat has been ordered to keep monitoring the waters while the beach owners have recruited a minimum of six divers who should always be on standard by to deal with any eventuality. A thick rope with jerry cans has been placed in the lake from Aero Beach to Spennah beach as a mark spot to deter swimmers from exceeding the point which has been set at 20 meters.
Aero, Lido and sports beach managers had this to say;
First I would like to send my sincere condolences to all the families that lost their loved ones. We as Lido Beach are working with the authorities to ensure that we put in place permanent measures to safe guard the lives of our customers. Swimming has so far been banned till we as beach owners erect a permanent demarcation in the lake to avoid swimmers from exceeding the 20 meters mark spot. I cannot assure when everything will be sorted out but we are doing our best to ensure that we comply with the authorities. A Lido Beach staff who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed to entebbenews.
The Ban on swimming has affected our business because people mainly come to beaches to swim and play in the sand. Many people turned away when they realized that the waters are out of bounds. Joseph Obuna the sports Beach Manager said.
This is a big lesson to all of us beach operators. We need to constantly work with the authorities to ensure that the lives of our customers are safe guarded. We as Aero Beach send our condolence message to all families that lost their loved ones. John Mande Asiimwe the Aero Beach Manager said.
However getting a comment from Spennah Beach Management proved futile because of a ban they imposed on the media.
Spennah beach doesn’t allow any media house from accessing the beach and if anyone is caught photographing their gadgets including Cameras are confiscated immediately. One of the Spennah Beach Managers told entebbenews reporter at the entrance.
