Big numbers coming out of Entebbe International Airport in terms of Passengers and Cargo Traffic!
January 2025 saw a total of 216,740 international passengers, with 105,320 arriving and 111,420 departing. That is about 6,991 people passing through the airport every single day.
Compared to January 2024, when 194,563 passengers traveled through Entebbe, this is a solid jump.
Why the Growth?
According to Vianey Luggya, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) spokesperson, a few things played a big role:
- Tourism is booming – More people are flying in to explore Uganda.
- International conferences – Events like the African Union Extraordinary CAADP Kampala 25 brought in 977 delegates alone.
- More flight options – Uganda Airlines has expanded its routes, plus new players like Kush Air and Premier Airlines (now offering flights to Juba) have joined the scene.
Breaking Records
This is actually the second-busiest month ever recorded at Entebbe Airport. The only time it was busier? December 2024, with 222,317 passengers.
Other peak months:
- August 2024 – 204,575 passengers
- December 2023 – 198,961 passengers
Cargo Numbers Are Up Too
January 2025 was also a strong month for cargo. The airport handled 5,069 metric tonnes, with 3,491 tonnes exported and 1,578 tonnes imported.
For context, the total cargo handled in 2024 was 67,731 metric tonnes, up from 59,073 metric tonnes in 2023.
What This Means for Uganda
Luggya summed it up best—Uganda is becoming a bigger player in aviation. More flights, more travelers, and more trade mean good news for the economy and global connections.
Looks like Entebbe Airport is just getting warmed up for 2025!
