UNMF President Eddy Kenzo has compared the music industry back then and today, giving credit to their generation for shaping and bettering the music industry to what it is now.

Eddy Kenzo, speaking about the previous generation of artists, revealed that they lived a very miserable life and, despite working hard, couldn’t afford the life they deserved, always finding it hard to do something for themselves, like building a home.

He noted that the industry was initially regarded as a career for failures, with people stereotyping every artist as a drug addict, drunkard, or living a reckless life of fighting in bars.

He, however, gives credit to artists in his generation for changing the narrative by working on their looks and influencing fellow artists to invest in their public image.

“We are the ones who have brought cleanliness. We have changed people’s mindsets to the point that now you see someone with fresh skin and don’t think they look drunk. Artists in those days appeared on stage with bottles of beer. They performed while drunk, something that is not the case right now,” Kenzo said.

Speaking about the upcoming generation, Eddy Kenzo described them as intellectuals who have had enough time to go to school and are thriving in other fields too; unlike them, who invested all their time and resources in music.

“By the time some of them start music, they have graduated. People like me, David Lutalo, among others, dedicated all our time to music. Those who went to school are very few. Lately, parents want to prepare their children before they come to the industry so that if they fail, they can do something else,” Knezo said.
