Dr. Grace Edward Galabuzi of Makerere University officially handed over a report on migration governance and migration diplomacy in Uganda at Fairway Boutique Hotel, Kampala on Wednesday, 20th July 2022.
He handed over the 51 paged report to the Uganda Council on Foreign Relations (UCFR) officials.
This was during a conference with the European University Institute (EUI) where experts and guests discussed at length the rights of migrants.

Galabuzi, the Ag. Executive Director at the Makerere Institute for Social Research, Makerere University published a report with findings and recommendations “Migration Governance and Migration Diplomacy in Uganda: An agenda for migrant-centred approach”.
“Report analyzes the role of migration as a key area of public policy. Gov’t will work jointly with different stakeholders to consider how to work together” Dr Galabuzi stated as he presented the report.
Dr Galabuzi served as an Associate Professor in the Politics and Public Administration Department, Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada and a Research Associate at the Centre for Social Justice in Toronto.
The hand over was witnessed by EUI president Prof Renaud Dehousse, Ambassador Attilio Pacifici of the EU Delegation to Uganda, Ambassador Francis Katana (Executive Director of UCFR) and former foreign affairs minister of Uganda Sam Kutesa, among others.

Dr Galabuzi lauded the various stakeholders who helped him in the preparation of this report.

These included members of the Advisory Board; Bosco Asiimwe (UCFR); Professor Andrew Geddes (MPC-EUI); Professor Mehari Taddele Maru (MPC-EUI); Ambassador James Mugume (UCFR, chair); Dr Linda Oucho (African Migration and Development Policy Centre, Nairobi); Dr Sabastiano Rwengabo (UCFR) and Susanna Garside (Department of Political and Social Sciences, EUI) who all provided invaluable research support.
Meanwhile, African experts (25 in number) will take part in an interactive in-person training covering the normative, institutional, collaborative and financial frameworks for effective transnational governance of Africa migration and mobility on Thursday, July 21, 2022 and the subsequent day.
The EUI’s school of Transnational Governance has awarded 10 merit-based scholarships for the training, which is co-organized with the EUI’s Migration policy centre.
