The former Vice President of Uganda, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, has advised musician Stecia Mayanja to drop her political ambitions, claiming it is a waste of time.
Prof. Bukenya, during an interview with Sanyuka TV, was asked about his opinion on Stecia Mayanja’s political ambitions, for which he unapologetically bashed.
He expressed his disappointment towards all creatives who have turned politics into a game, claiming they are embarrassing the country.
Bukenya revealed that the increasing number of unserious people contesting for higher offices was bound to drive the country into bigger problems.
He, therefore, advised Stecia to abandon her dream and instead invest the money in a business because she would not win.
Honestly, Ugandans should stop taking advantage of us. Contesting for the presidency is not a joke. And when we turn this position and the parliament into children’s play, we will bring problems to our country. Weigh yourself and what you want to go after. When you don’t, you will embarrass us.
Therefore, I encourage her not to waste her money. She should just invest it in a business since the government no longer wants to fund artists. Why would you waste your money when your village cannot even give you fifty votes? How will you even traverse the country? Please leave us and our country alone for the people who can handle it, he said.
Last week, Stecia Mayanja was unveiled as the president of the newly formed National Peasants’ Party (NPP). She had earlier revealed plans to pursue active politics, through her social media platforms, with a poster detailing her goal to stand as Kampala District Woman Member of Parliament.

Stecia has joined the growing roster of musicians who, over the years, have ventured into politics, including Nubian Li, Bobi Wine, Big Eye Starboss, and Catherine Kusasira, among others.
