The division chief revealed during the press conference on Thursday at his offices that “DPC Kawonawo is protecting investors and other individuals erecting illegal structures at beach shores from the Botanical gardens stretching towards the Anderita beach hotel.
The police chief and municipal authorities are fighting the division area chairman over illegal structures that were recently demolished of different hotel facilities that were erected at the beach shore line. This follows after two weeks ago, the area chairman and division enforcement demolished several illegal structures erected at the beach shores preventing locals and other persons from accessing the lake shores. A chairperson, says the division has been receiving complaints from the community that they cannot access the buffer zones due to blockage by individual property owners along the Nambi road. “The developers and property owners are not supposed to construct any structure at 200 metres off the Lake buffer zones but this has always been ignored. All residents are entitled to free access to the buffer zone areas without any hindrance,” Mr Mutebi s
The Entebbe deputy mayor, Mr Richard Ssekyondo, said the the council decided to prioritise the restoration of buffer zones during the 2019/2020 Financial Year budget. “All those [developers] who raised perimeter walls or structures stretching out to the lake shores must demolish them. The affected places include Palm Beach, Gorreti’s Pizzeria Restaurant and Saferon Beach.
