Degrees aren’t enough; Anna Talia Oze tells youth to focus on job creation skills

Media personality Anna Talia Oze has sparked debate on education, employment, and self-reliance among Uganda’s ambitious younger generation.

While reflecting on academic achievements, Anna shared that despite qualifications, real opportunities often require privilege or connections, not just merit.

“Not all doors open through merit,” she wrote. “Some require the right surname, while others remain closed before we even arrive.”

Her honest message resonated widely, especially with young people facing competitive job markets and the harsh truth of systemic inequalities today.

Rather than complain about blocked doors, Anna turned to entrepreneurship, emphasizing that hard work in business is always fairly rewarded.

“I found peace working my own land, in business. At least there, the soil honors true effort,” she reflected honestly.

Anna Talia Oze urged youth to study what empowers them to create jobs, not just to apply for positions that may never come.

She highlighted undervalued fields—makeup, tailoring, event styling, TV presenting—that have now become respected, thriving, and essential industries sustaining families today.

Anna advised young people to embrace entrepreneurship with patience, preparation, and resilience in a world where success often draws unwanted attention.

“Real jobs” are often taken or inherited, she noted, while so-called “fake jobs” are building futures, brands, and lasting livelihoods.

“Even success requires silence,” she warned. “Visible achievement can provoke audits, frozen accounts, or tax scrutiny disguised as random government checks.”

In systems valuing connections over competence, Anna’s message reminds youth that slow, honest progress often leads to lasting, meaningful success.
