Comedian Kapere, real name Yokana Mbuuse, has lamented about the excessive poverty in the industry, calling out fellow comedians for bewitching him.
Kapere, who hosted a live TikTok broadcast, couldn’t hold back tears as he admitted that he rarely cries in public but felt compelled to share what he has been going through, saying the pressure has become overwhelming.
According to Kapere, the entertainment industry was no longer giving comedians enough opportunities despite trying out other businesses to earn some money; they were not successful.
He added that he has been left to struggle to meet his financial needs including his rent and his children’s school fees, because promoters were not booking him for performances.
“I have so many problems. I have never lamented but sometimes it gets too much. The industry is dead. You decide to do some other business to feed yourself but it also fails. You keep wondering why all this is happening. I do not know if God forgot about me. LandLord is on my neck, school fees too, no gigs, poverty is a lot and promoters no longer book us,” he lamented.
Kapere further accused some of his colleagues of witchcraft which he says has partly led to his misfortunes. He alleged that the culprits resort to bewitching him whenever they see him starting to make financial progress.
He went on to blame his physical appearance which he believes has affected his career, saying it has cost him gigs and public support.

The comedian praised events promoter Abitex for consistently supporting entertainers and expressed hope that more regular events could help comedians earn a living.
“Because of my appearance, I’m not loved by people. People do not give me gigs because I’m ugly. I wish Abitex had a show every week at least because he gives money. If he had a show every week, we would be living a better life,” he said.
