Ugandan dancehall singer Cindy Sanyu has defended artists’ behavior after meeting renowned Jamaican dancehall artist Spice Official, citing that they were just overwhelmed with excitement.

Spice landed in Uganda three days ago ahead of her 2026 Kampala concert and received a massive reception from the local media and entertainment fraternity. Among the artists who welcomed her were dancehall artists Buchaman, Fik Gaza, and Ziza Bafana.

During this time, the artists were given a chance to do their freestyles, setting netizens’ tongues wagging, with many criticizing the artists, saying they embarrassed Ugandans owing to their half-baked content.

Cindy, while addressing members of the press, acknowledged that Ziza Bafana, Mark D Urban, Fik Gaza, among others, didn’t perform to the best of their ability. She, however, defended them against criticism, noting that they were talented but just acted out of excitement after meeting their icon.

“I think they were excited. When you see someone you love and adore, you go speechless. In a way, they were not well composed like they ought to be. The Ziza Bafana we know, Mark Da Urban, and Buchaman didn’t turn up. I want Ugandans to understand that they were overwhelmed; things didn’t come out as we expected because of their excitement. They should show them grace and understanding,” Cindy Sanyu said.
