Presidential advisor on ghetto affairs, Buchaman, Original Names Mark Bugembe has today handed over an assortment of army uniform look-alike clothing after a caution from the Uganda Police Force on the illegal possession of the same.
Addressing the press and the Katwe area Police officers at his residence in Makindye- Luwafu, Buchaman said that he had received “an order from above” to handover any clothing that looked like military of police uniform, which he, as the Ghetto President, heeded.
He argued that there is only one army in Uganda; the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) “which should be respected.”
“The reason for this conference is to handle a security issue. I want to appeal to all ghetto youths that we have only one army and it should be respected. I want to command all the youths in the ghetto to take back any army patented attire in their possession and we have given them only two weeks to do that,” he said.
“Police ordered everyone in possession of army attire to surrender them to the authorities. We have managed to collect some of them in our ghetto and we have to hand them over,” Buchaman said.
This incident followed the arrest of 81 NUP supporters for the illegal possession and use of patented armed force uniforms.
Addressing the media on Monday at Uganda media center, Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga revealed that some of the known celebrities had willingly agreed to hand over all the camouflage clothing resembling that of the army and he gave them a week to do so.
“These celebrities are commonly known and they have offered to collect these attires from their fellow musicians so that they can hand them over to police by the end of this week,” Enanga said.
Buchaman is the first individual to come out and publically hand over his uniforms after police issued a strong warning to whoever would be found in possession of the uniforms.
Meanwhile, Buchaman unveiled a new ‘ghetto attire’ which he said will replace the military uniforms.
“We have introduced an official ghetto attire to replace the military uniforms and whoever is interested should pick them at my residence,” he said.
