A man has dragged Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine and FDC’s Dr.Kizza Besigye to court for operating People Power movement and People’s government without officially registering it.

In a petitioned before the Constitutional Court, Adens Ntare Rutaro, who describes himself as a voter from Ruhaama accuses People Power of taking part in political activities without officially being registered as a political party.

“The actions of the first and second respondent in establishing unregistered political organisations or parties under and the names and styles of People Power movement and People’s government, mobilizing political activities and membership with a view of influencing political process, sponsoring a political agenda and offering a platform to candidates for election to political offices are in contravention of Article 72(2) of the constitution,”Rutaro says in his petition.

The petitioner says that establishing and running and mobilization in regards to political activities with a national structure is a reserve of registered political parties.

    Declarations
In his petition, Rutaro wants the court to declare activities of the People Power movement and the People’s government illegal and should, therefore, be halted in their current form.
“The petitioner wants a declaration that the actions of the first and second respondents(Bobi Wine and Besigye) in establishing, running and mobilizing political activities with a national structure are a reserve of political organisations and therefore their actions are inconsistent with and in contravention of article 72(2) of the provisions of the constitution of Uganda.”

The petitioner who says he is an ardent believer in the rule of law and constitutionalism also wants the court to declare that failure by the Attorney General through his established structures to halt the activities of the People Power movement and the People’s government is an abdication of a constitutional mandate and therefore inconsistent with the constitution.

The developments come at a time when Bobi Wine announced a team of over 140 politicians that will spearhead mobilization for his People Power movement throughout the country.
Dr.Kizza Besigye also addressed his first national assembly for the self-proclaimed People’s government on Thursday.
