National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, delivered a powerful message in Pallisa District, challenging the four-decade rule of President Yoweri Museveni.
Kyagulanyi declared that the upcoming polls represent a critical, perhaps final, chance for Ugandans to vote for sweeping political change and forge a new direction for the nation.
Addressing hundreds of enthusiastic supporters at Kalaki playground, the musician-turned-politician anchored his campaign on the assertion that after nearly 40 years in office—a period starting in 1986—President Museveni has definitively run out of viable ideas to steer Uganda forward.
The Urgent Call for Democratic Change
Kyagulanyi framed the 2026 General Election as a “one-time opportunity” to avert a constitutional crisis, claiming that if given another term, the incumbent leader plans to continue pushing for a “life presidency project.”
“I want us to use this last opportunity to elect the president because Mr. Museveni has grown old and no longer has better ideas for Ugandans,” Kyagulanyi told the crowd.
He implored citizens to mark January 15, 2026, as a historical day for the country, urging them to choose a new government built on hope, freedom, and democracy, over what he described as a continued slide toward dictatorship.
40 Years of Economic Frustration and Failed Governance
The NUP leader pointed to widespread systemic failures as proof that the current administration’s model is unsustainable. He argued that four decades under President Museveni have resulted in a legacy defined by:
-
Rampant Corruption and Impunity
-
Widespread Human Rights Abuse
-
Deepening Economic Frustration
-
A failure to provide quality Education and Healthcare
Kyagulanyi also claimed that the country is currently being governed by one political family, citing the placement of family members and relatives in key government positions, leading to national disunity along tribal, religious, and economic lines.
Kyagulanyi’s Policy Blueprint for a New Uganda
Should he be given the mandate to become the country’s chief executive, Bobi Wine outlined a clear path for national recovery and renewed focus on essential services. His government’s priorities would center on strategic investment in foundational areas:
-
Healthcare: Significant investment in robust and accessible health services for all Ugandans.
-
Infrastructure: Committing to better roads and modern, improved schooling facilities.
-
Security Sector Reform: Boosting the remuneration of security operatives to improve their well-being, which in turn is intended to foster better trust and relationships between the police/military and ordinary citizens.
-
National Unity: Championing the unity of all Ugandans to bridge the wide gap of economic disparity that has disadvantaged the majority of vulnerable citizens.
The rally, which saw heavy security deployment, concluded with supporters, clad in NUP party colours, painting Pallisa town red, demonstrating the significant support for Kyagulanyi’s promise of a New Uganda.
