Former FDC Presidential Candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has revealed that they invited National Unity Platform (NUP) to join the newly launched pressure group, People’s Front for Transition (PFT) intended to kick the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party from power.
PFT was launched on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the JEEMA offices in Kampala, and attracted members of the opposition from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Democratic Party (DP), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Justice Forum (JEEMA), and Conservative Party (CP) among others.
However, NUP, the biggest opposition political party was, and is not part of the pressure group.
While appearing on NTV Thursday night program, “On the Spot,” PFT Chairperson, Dr Kizza Besigye confirmed that NUP was invited to the launch, and to be part of the group.
“Every political formation among the oppressed was intensely engaged. Every Organization has processes. Some of the political parties [we] engaged said they had internal consultations,” Besigye said.
“Does that mean that NUP was engaged as well? the moderator, Patrick Kamala asked.
“Absolutely,” Besigye replied.
He noted that the pressure group is open to everyone seeking change of Government.
“The focus of what we are doing, and would like to do is to plead with anybody who wants to engage in the struggle,” Besigye said.
He added that the reason he, and his groups advocate for transition is not just mere transition, but “a fundamental reset of the whole system.”
Speaking at the launch, Dr Besigye said that they were giving themselves only three weeks to consult all stakeholders on their mission before implementing their plan, a Grand Resetting of the country.
