Opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, currently detained at Luzira Prison, has written a letter condemning what he describes as an oppressive denial of his right to be heard in court.
In his message, Besigye expressed frustration that his legal team has not been allowed to present his case effectively, arguing that such restrictions undermine both justice and democracy.
He said the refusal to grant him a fair hearing was part of a broader pattern of silencing opposition voices in Uganda.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. Preventing me from speaking in court is not only a violation of my rights but also an attack on the principles of fairness and transparency,” Besigye stated.
The four-time presidential contender urged Ugandans and the international community to remain vigilant against injustices, emphasizing that his struggle is not personal but part of a larger fight for accountability and political freedoms.
Besigye’s remarks come as his party, the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), continues to grapple with both financial and political challenges ahead of the 2026 elections.
His imprisonment has further fueled debate about the state of democracy and rule of law in the country.
