Swangz Avenue musician Azawi has finally agreed to sit down with Eddy Kenzo for a public debate, as requested.
In an interview with Galaxy Media, Azawi expressed her gratitude for Eddy Kenzo’s acceptance of her long-awaited dialogue. However, the singer put up a few conditions before engaging in the challenge.
Since they all grew up from humble backgrounds and struggled their way to the top, Azawi feels it would be fair to hold the debate in the ghettos where their stories began. She wished to have people from those areas attend the session, where they would discuss several issues that they had previously disagreed upon.
“I accept the debate. I’m just requesting the organizers to get us and take us back to the ghetto where all our stories started from. Whether Nakulabye, Kasubi or anywhere. We should sit there and have a chat with Eddy about where our disagreements are coming from. I was so happy when I heard him ask for it. I have my questions; I need him to tell me where he thinks I’m diverting and misleading the youths because I might be doing it unknowingly. I will also explain to him what I mean,” she said.
Azawi has often rebuked Eddy Kenzo for failing to stand up for fellow musicians and Ugandans for a while. She claims the UNMF president has not utilized his position to address the industry’s issues, linking it to his support for the party in power.
Many concluded that her statements were from a place of hate. In this interview, Azawi denied having grudges with Kenzo and instead hailed him for the considerable contribution he has made to her career.

She emphasized that she was open to having the debate because they both needed to air out their opinions and understand each other’s point of view on matters concerning Ugandans.
Azawi’s response comes days after the UNMF president, Eddy Kenzo, openly challenged her to a one-on-one debate to air out their misconceptions.
