The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces’ (UPDF) 1st Division Court Martial chaired by Col Sam Mugyenyi has sentenced one of the two acquitted Local Defence Unit (LDU) Personnel to 4 months in prison following the charge of assault causing bodily harm to Mityana District Chairperson, Mr. Joseph Luzige. The Ministry of Health has announced that 3 more Ugandans have died of COVID-19 as 94 new cases are recorded, the highest the country has recorded in a single day since the outbreak. Results of COVID-19 tests done on 19 August 2020 confirm 94 new cases. This brings the total confirmed COVID-19 cases of Ugandans to 1,750. FDC iron-lady, Ingrid Turinawe has said she won’t “hand over our party to the Junta” days after being defeated in the Rukungiri Municipality MP elections. Turinawe and MP Roland Kaginda were upset by little-known Dr Warren Katoora Tumwiine, a medical doctor during this week’s polls. Tumwiine polled 130 votes against Turinawe’s 65.
