Swangz Avenue singer Winnie Nwagi has opened up about single parenthood, saying that she doesn’t hide the truth from her daughter that her dad is a deadbeat.
Winnie has always been vocal about being a single mother and raising her daughter solely without the help of her father. She has once revealed that he abandoned them when she was pregnant, equating the situation to a form of betrayal.
During a podcast with Sheebah Karungi, Nwagi revealed that she has always been open with her now 15-year-old daughter about how her father was not taking care of her.
Every time she steps out to go and perform, she always reminds her daughter that she is working for her education and well-being.
“I tell my child the truth and do not hide anything from her. I keep telling her that her father shouldn’t lie to her that he takes care of her. When I’m going to work, I tell her that I’m going out to earn her school fees. I remind her that I’m both her father and mother. No one should ever lie to her that her father did anything because she sees all this from me,” she said.
Winnie made it known that while Destiny was sitting for her Primary Leaving Examinations, they were seated in a parents’ meeting when her stepbrother brought flowers and money from her father to wish her success. This triggered her because he had never paid for her education before, but only showed up to celebrate her milestone.

“I was so angry and I sent my dad to talk to him. It surprised me because how can you show up after all these years of not supporting us? I felt disrespected
Because there is more to just that and you have missed out on beautiful moments with your daughter. Look at her, she is all grown, all changed; you don’t know her and she doesn’t know you. You have no respect for your daughter,” she noted.
