Ugandan singer-songwriter Joshua Baraka has released his new single, “YOYO,” a vibrant love song that captures the excitement, uncertainty, and chemistry of taking a complicated romance to the next level.
The new song explores the familiar experience of being caught in a situationship, a space where two people clearly have feelings for each other but have yet to define their relationship. Instead of remaining in limbo, Joshua Baraka sings about taking a bold step toward turning that connection into something genuine.
“YOYO” stands out for its celebration of love across languages and cultures, blending English, French, Luganda and Lingala. The multilingual approach gives the track a distinct East African identity while highlighting Joshua Baraka’s increasingly diverse musical style and global appeal.
The release marks Joshua Baraka’s second single of 2026 and offers another preview of the sound and creative direction of his upcoming EP, “Recess 2.” The project is expected to further showcase his songwriting, versatility, and ability to tell intimate stories through contemporary African pop.
Joshua Baraka wrote and produced “YOYO” himself, with additional production from Hendrix Sam. Their collaboration brings together Joshua’s songwriting instincts and Hendrix’s production skills to create a polished, energetic track built around the emotions of modern romance.
At its heart, “YOYO” is about choosing love, taking chances, and moving beyond uncertainty. The song poses a relatable question for anyone stuck in an undefined relationship: what if the situationship became something real?
Beyond the new release, Joshua Baraka is also preparing to take his music to audiences across Uganda. The singer will embark on a nationwide tour in the coming weeks, beginning in Northern Uganda before travelling to West Nile, Eastern Uganda, and Western Uganda.
