Singer Lydia Jazmine has opened up about how she abandoned her dreams of becoming a lawyer and becoming a full-time solo artist.
Lydia’s love for music started in church, but commercially, she was a backup singer for Goodlyfe’s Radio & Weasel. Throughout this time, she confessed that she had never dreamed of becoming an artist on her own.
During her interview with KFM, Lydia revealed that she had dreams of becoming a lawyer because she had performed well in her A -Levels but ended up taking a different course.
Her time as a backup singer earned her some money, which would cover her tuition, but she became very comfortable and never thought of embarking on a serious music career.
“I never thought I would be a solo artist. I didn’t have that in mind when I was a backup artist for Goodlyfe. I was behind doors, and I was so comfortable back there. I mean, I was getting my money and paying my tuition,” she said.

Weasel and the late Radio, however, introduced the idea to her because they felt she was talented. Not long after, Jeff Kiwa and Bushington, who worked with Goodlyfe at that time, also pushed her into leaving her comfort zone.

“I was good as a backup until they began pushing me. Radio asked me if I wanted to sing. Everyone was behind my back. Jeff Kiwa, Weasel; these guys asked me If I could try singing on my own. Those guys pushed me so hard to start the solo journey. I remember wanting to be a lawyer or something. I didn well in my F.6, I got 21 points but at campus I did Business Administration and Management. I was comfortable with my books. Even though I had talent and I would sing, I just hadn’t thought about becoming an artist. I do not know why. This just came when I was with Radio & Weasel.” she said.
It was then that she tried out her luck with her first song ‘You Know’ ft. Rabadaba. The reception and feedback that she got from music lovers convinced her that she could fully become an artist.
