Swangz Avenue singer Winnie Nwagi has expressed her frustration with social media users who keep reminding her to get married in every conversation they have with her.
Nwagi was on her TikTok live broadcast when her follower asked her when she was planning to settle down.
Out of frustration, the singer blasted her followers, cautioning them never to suggest marriage to her. She revealed that marriage was a personal choice and there was a possibility that she would decide never to get married.
“Please do not force me or push me into getting married. I will get married when I want and when I do not, I still will not. Tell that to your people and leave me alone because I can decide to stay unmarried if I want; something that you look at as a curse,” she said.
Quite different from a society that views marriage as a lifetime achievement, especially for women, Nwagi insisted that she might make the decision not to get married. She explained that many women were suffering silently in marriage, a situation she was not willing to settle for.
“I can be proud of being unmarried because there is nothing special in marriage. You are all suffering in marriage but have the guts to force us shame us into getting married. Leave us alone. Do not talk about marriage again with me; I will not,” she said.
