Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahare has called for the remains of the late Kadongo Kamu singer, Paul Kafeero, to be exhumed and have a DNA test carried out to settle the longstanding family feud that has been running for years.
In 2021, the exhuming process was put on hold by Uganda Police’s Pathologist Dr. Moses Byaruhanga, who suggested that the family wrangles needed to first be settled fully.
They later conducted the DNA test by collecting samples from those who claimed to be the deceased’s children and matching them to each other. The result came back, excluding some of the 12 out of 16 children.
Those who were excluded have come out to reveal that it was a plot to take out the defiant ones who were standing in their way to sell Kafeero’s Estate. They claimed most of the property had been sold off, and because of this, they called upon Hon. Balaam to intervene in their matter.

Balaam Barugahara summoned them to his office, and before journalists, he called Kafeero’s sister on the phone, directing her to collect all the deceased’s children and go to Naguru Hospital for a DNA test under his strict supervision. In unison, he advised that all children go to Buganda Road court for a letter giving them a go-ahead to exhume Kafeero’s remains to extract a sample to enable the test.

He promised to foot every bill to facilitate the exhuming of the body and having the entire DNA process done to sort the issue once and for all. Afterwards, he promised he would bury him again with respect and give him a proper grave site.
“I’m tired of this issue, and I want it settled because Kafeero was my friend. I want to encourage all children to stop fighting over the property of the dead. You should all sign as a family in agreement that you have agreed to the DNA being extracted from the remains to help tell who his children are. I will facilitate everything,” Balaam Barugahara said.
