Entebbe police is holding Charles Mayanja, a real estate dealer, following his fallout with Bushenyi High court judge Amos Kwizera over land located in Kasanje, Wakiso district.

According to one of the police investigating officers, Mayanja has been detained for failure to clear payment to the judge for a kibanja that the latter had bought. Mayanja refused to clear the judge because the sale agreement of the kibanja he purports to have bought is fake.

It all started when the judge bought a kibanja at Gayaza-Nangombe in Kasanje, Wakiso from a one John Ssemugooma. Mayanja, who is the registered title holder, protested to the judge that he was not consulted as the landlord before the sale.

According to available records, the two later reached an agreement for Mayanja to compensate the judge to back off his land. As a commitment, Mayanja paid an initial fee of Shs 20 million to the judge’s account in Standard Chartered bank.

However, things took a twist when Mayanja, upon seeing the 1996 kibanja agreement that Ssemugooma used to sell the land to the judge, noted one major irregularity.

John Ssuuna, the LC-I secretary who witnessed the agreement, signed off with his phone number 0712962165. Mayanja argued the agreement is fake because in 1996, it was impossible for someone to have a 10-digit phone number.

So, he refused to pay the balance to the judge, but the latter insisted that they had a contract which he has to fulfill. Efforts to reach out to judge Kwizera were futile by press time. It remains to be seen whether Mayanja will be arraigned in court.
